Description
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation offers one internship each summer to an undergraduate or
graduate student who desires experience related to philanthropy, public policy, the nonprofit sector
and/or community service in North Carolina. The internship lasts for at least six consecutive weeks
during the summer; however, there is no specific starting date. The Foundation provides a stipend
for this internship as well as an additional housing stipend if the intern does not live within
commuting distance of Winston‐Salem, NC.
Responsibilities
Interns have the opportunity to assist staff in researching projects that support the long‐term goals
of the Foundation relating to its focus areas:
Community Economic Development, Strengthening
Democracy, the Environment, Pre
‐collegiate Education, and Social Justice and Equity. They are
also welcome to pursue projects of personal interest. Interns shadow staff members, attend
conferences and meetings, and participate in the overall activities of the Foundation. The internship
provides a unique opportunity for a student to explore his/her interests with the goal of informing
future career pathways.
Eligibility
Residents or natives of North Carolina and/or students attending accredited colleges or universities
in the state are eligible to apply. Further qualifications include:
Demonstrated interest in philanthropy, nonprofits, public policy, advocacy and/or community
service.
Strong communication and writing skills
Sense of responsibility and personal initiative
Willingness to support Foundation through intensive research projects
