Lambda Legal’s Education and Public Affairs Department based in New York City seeks a digital media intern to assist with various online communications activities. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated undergraduate student to gain hands-on experience at a national nonprofit organization specializing in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV civil rights law.
Responsibilities The intern will assist the web and communications team with a variety of tasks. The intern may be responsible for brand and design research, image research and purchasing, social media and web metrics work, work on digital marketing campaigns and more. The intern will have the opportunity to acquire real world experience with both the creative and managerial aspects of nonprofit web and design work. The ideal intern will be self-directed and motivated to develop their own projects as the internship progresses.
Applicants must be able to work two days a week at Lambda Legal’s office, located at 120 Wall Street. Applicants should be available on Monday mornings for weekly team meetings, and must be available about 10 hours a week.
Qualifications We are seeking a detail-oriented and well-organized intern with an interest in communications, digital marketing and design. Experience with social media and web design or development is a plus. A familiarity with issues that are important to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and people with HIV is preferred, but not necessary. Interns should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team and be capable of handling confidential information in a secure and professional manner.
Compensation As this is a volunteer nonpaying position. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek out and apply for grants from their school or other sources.
