SUMMARY
USA Swimming is seeking a student to participate in an internship program that will work closely with the communications team on various projects and initiatives. The emphasis on this position will be in the sports information field (results and bio updates, athlete nominations, media outreach, community relations, etc.).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Functions include but are not limited to the following:
1. Assist with day-to-day communication department responsibilities
2. Local media outreach for key events
3. Compile and update event media guides and athlete bios
4. Compile event specific and weekly clip reports
5. Assist with hometown and long lead media outreach for National Teamers
6. Assist with community relations program, Swim Today
7. Assist with maintaining USA Swimming’s social media outlets
Required Skills TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:
- Standard Office Equipment
- Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
- Proficiency with internet search capabilities and usage telecommunications equipment, fax machine, copier
- Social media proficiency (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine)
- Experience with InDesign/Photoshop preferred but not required
CONDITIONS:
- Office environment in multi-story building on multi-building site
- Business casual environment
Required Experience QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational Requirements: Enrolled in a Bachelor degree program at the junior or senior level status or higher, or recent college graduate
- Proficient with Microsoft and Adobe Creative Suite
- Passion for sport and the Ideals of the Olympic Movement
- Sport experience preferred (i.e., active in competitive/intramural sports)
- Must be eligible to work in the USA
- Excellent communication and human relations skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced multidisciplinary team environment
- Willingness to participate in the full-time Intern Program
- Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP Style
- Knowledge of USA Swimming and its athletes is a plus but not required
- Degree concentration in public relations, business or communications preferred
