Meetings and Events Intern
Americans for the Arts – Washington, DC
Internship

SCOPE

The Americans for the Arts Internship Program offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to investigate and participate in the operations of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America. Through a combination of learning experiences, work projects, and group collaborations, interns become integral members of our team. Program benefits may include career support, member services, and a series of leadership discussions with Americans for the Arts staff. Interns are expected to participate in daily activities, contribute skills and ideas, and produce excellent work, all the while preparing to become the next generation of arts, nonprofit, and cultural leaders.

The Meetings and Events intern will gain experience in event planning in a variety of forms, specifically through working on Americans for the Arts national events. Depending on the applicable semester, interns will work on events such as the National Arts Awards, Annual Convention, National Arts Marketing Project Conference and Arts Advocacy Day. Working closely with all members of the meeting and events team, the intern will assist with website updates, meeting and event research projects, event logistics, and administrative tasks. Depending on the semester, the intern may also have the opportunity to work with staff during an event for onsite logistical experience.

As a result of the internship experience, the intern will gain a knowledge base that may be applied to a career in the meetings and events field, as well as arts/nonprofit administration. Applicable skills may include knowledge of site selection process, event logistics and onsite coordination, as well as technical computer skills such as Microsoft Excel, web publishing, and data entry.
