EDUCATION REPORTER
The Greenwood Index-Journal
Greenwood, S.C.
The Greenwood (S.C.) Index-Journal, a 12,000-circulation daily newspaper, is looking for a talented, energetic and aggressive staff writer/reporter to join its award-winning team.
The position we’re looking to fill is crucial to our team: education reporter. Our education reporter covers six school districts, one charter school, two four-year colleges and one technical college. And we expect the person filling this vacancy to be aggressive in uncovering the truth, holding public officials accountable, just like the previous holder of the position.
Along with covering those hard news elements, you’ll be expected to take readers inside the classroom and show trends in education. You’ll do plenty of profile pieces and features, and you’ll be responsible for the front-page content for our weekly Campus section, a 4-to-6-page Sunday section highlighting education.
As if that wasn’t enough, we’re a family-owned newspaper, which means we don’t have the layers of corporate executives to wade through. We have never had a furlough day. We haven’t had layoffs. While newspapers are struggling to stay in business — and reducing the quality of the product — we’ve thrived.
To apply, send your resume, a cover letter and 5-10 clips (we’re looking for enterprise, breaking news and well-written features) via regular mail or email to:
