CBS Television Stations consists of 29 owned-and-operated stations, including 16 that are part of the CBS Television Network, eight affiliates of The CW Network, three independent stations and two MyNetworkTV affiliates. Job Description
CBS-3/CW PHILLY 57 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

General Information
CBS-3’s Internship Program is designed to provide field experience for students pursuing careers in television broadcasting. Interns are accepted for the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. All internships are unpaid. Transportation costs (except those incurred while traveling for business purposes requested by CBS-3), meals, and any other financial obligations, are the sole responsibility of the individual intern. Interns are expected to dress appropriately for the business world while interning at CBS-3.

CBS-3 Departments Available For Internships
Art Department: Assists with designing the on-air graphics and print ads for CBS-3’s local promotions. The intern should be interested in learning about television art production and will assist with ideas for planning, creating, designing, and implementing the promotions for CBS-3.

Business Department: Learns how a business office functions within the broadcasting industry. The intern will assist in processing accounts payable and accounts receivable. There will also be some exposure to human resources and benefits administration.

Creative Services Department: Assists in the overall promotion of CBS-3. The intern will assist the promotion writers and producers in the creation and development of advertising, promotional, and public service announcement material.

News Department: Learns how a news department operates and provides news coverage of the Philadelphia region, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The intern may be assigned to a variety of areas such as breaking news, sports, entertainment, the assignment desk, or the tape library.

Public Relations Department: Assists with the station’s public relations and public service activities including writing press releases and other publicity materials, assisting in the production and scheduling of public service announcements, and planning special events and other community outreach programs.

Research Department: Learns how market research provides rating information to various departments within the station. The intern will assist in developing catalog input and providing basic research from the marketing and sales perspectives.

Sales Department: The intern will learn about selling local television advertising time, as well as creating special sales projects, understanding ratings trends for specific sales proposals, and creating presentations for obtaining new business accounts.

Required Qualifications
Requirements

Prospective interns must be students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program that sponsors internships for academic credit. Students must be in satisfactory academic standing with an overall grade point average of at least 2.7 (C+) and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) in their major courses. We do not have opportunities for high school students or volunteers.

Prospective interns must provide six documents (called the Intern Packet):

1) Intern Application

2) Advisor’s Verification Form

3) Internship Agreement

4) An original college/university transcript

5) A one-page letter stating why you wish to undertake this Internship

6) A document from the intern’s school, on school letterhead, advising us of the number of credits the student will receive for the internship.

Application Procedure:

All candidates interested in applying for an internships position with CBS 3, KYW-TV / CW Philly 57 are required to apply online at CBSphilly.com. Click on the jobs link to be director to CBS Television Stations’ employment website. Be prepared to create a new user account as well as uploading your resume. Use the Search option to search for jobs in Philadelphia . Click on the Internships job link to apply for a position. Once your online applicant notice and resume are received the “Intern Packet” will be electronically sent to you via email.

Completing Forms:

On the Intern Application, please be sure to indicate which department in the station you are most interested in working. You may list your first, second and third choices. Make sure that your Advisor signs the Advisor’s Verification. You will also need to have the Internship Agreement notarized by a notary public.

The prospective intern must mail all five required documents of their Intern Packet together in the same envelope to: CBS 3, Attn: Human Resources, 1555 Hamilton Street , Philadelphia , PA 19130 . Please ensure that the Intern Packet is complete before you place it in the mail. Incomplete packets will not be processed.

Please refrain from calling the station to check on the status of your Intern Packet. Due to the large volume of prospective interns, we are unable to handle phone calls of this nature.

Your Intern Packet will be reviewed by the appropriate individuals and if selected for an interview, you will be contacted by telephone or email. Please be sure to include your telephone number(s) and email address in your Intern Packet.
