Media & Marketing Intern Recess

Fall/Winter Internship: November, 2013 – March, 2014; 3 days/week; 6 hours/day. Ideally Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, but schedule is flexible and we can work with students’ shifting course schedules.

Responsibilities: The intern will participate in day-to-day marketing and administrative tasks, take charge of all social media platforms, document artists’ projects, track and archive all press, and draft and edit monthly newsletters and press releases through email marketing software. The intern will help with event planning and fundraising efforts and become part of a close-knit network of artists and administrators.

Because Recess is new and growing, this position will offer a unique opportunity for direct involvement. Along with Executive Director, Program Director, and Communications Coordinator, the intern will maintain daily administration. The intern will also have the opportunity to focus on independent projects particularly suited to their skills and interests.

Internship Projects and Responsibilities:

-Assisting with clerical support for Executive Director, Program Director, and Communications Coordinator
-Assisting artists and staff in marketing projects both sites (Manhattan and Brooklyn)
-Manage day to day activities including social networking, email marketing, creating forms, responding to information requests, maintaining up-to-date information on website, and data entry
-Assisting with artist program activities as needed
-Conducting artist and organizational research by via phone and Internet
-Prepare written materials for internal and external reports, grants, program participants and the website
-Assisting with fundraising efforts including benefit events

Credit: whenever possible, Recess works with institutions to provide course credit and/or stipends

Required Qualifications:

-Abilities to be detail oriented, diligent, and self-sufficient
-Ability to effectively communicate with artists/visitors and staff
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Comfort dealing with the public
-Exceptional organizational abilities and independent initiative
-Experience in nonprofit administration and/or fundraising and event planning a plus
-Strong computer skills a must: Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Internet research and social networking; knowledge of HTML a plus, Adobe Creative Suite capabilities a plus
