Clorox/Burt’s Bees R&D, located in Durham, North Carolina will have an exciting summer intern position to offer an undergraduate with a science degree during the summer of 2014.

The Global Stewardship organization will welcome an intern to work within the Cosmetics & OTC Drugs team at our Burt’s Bees facility in Durham. The project will include, but is not limited to, the development and expansion of a database to store and manage clinical data for global cosmetic claims support; the assessment of international over the counter (OTC) and quasi-drug regulations relevant to Burt’s Bees products and development of an overview on compliance criteria; monitoring of US FDA enforcement actions in the cosmetics industry and summarizing trends identified. In addition, the intern will spend one on one time with regulatory specialists within the Durham-based Global Stewardship team and will also have opportunities to interact with a cross-functional R&D team of cosmetic product developers/formulators, and process and packaging engineers. This will be an opportunity to gain insight into global cosmetic regulatory compliance and learn how different regulations impact product development and commercialization.

As a Clorox/Burt’s Bees intern you will develop improved communication and organization skills, you will gain experience in the interpretation of cosmetic and OTC regulations and you will become familiar with clinical data required for claims support.

We take pride in providing our interns with meaningful hands-on assignments, where you will learn about the personal care products industry, relevant US and international regulatory landscapes, key issues and unique challenges in developing natural personal care products, and have an opportunity to be a solid contributor to the regulatory compliance of our products.

Duration of Assignment :

Internship assignment will be approximately 12 weeks starting in May/June of 2014. Exact dates will be confirmed based on candidate’s school schedule.

Pay Type :

Competitive pay. Company holidays and half day Friday summer hours will be observed.

Qualifications:
Majors :

B.S. Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Toxicology, Immunology or Regulatory Sciences degree – must be graduating in the 2014-2015 school year.

Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. Offers of employment are contingent upon proof of the applicant’s legal right to work and be employed in the United States.
