Duke Energy Radiation Protection Internship The internship is for students pursuing degrees in undergraduate engineering, biology, or health physics studies. This
internship will be based at the Duke Energy Corporate Office in Charlotte or at one of the six nuclear fleet locations in North or South Carolina. Summer interns will support Radiation Protection Staff and work on multiple projects and data collection. The internships will be located across the fleet at the following locations:

Catawba Nuclear Station (York, SC) McGuire Nuclear Station (Huntersville, NC)

Oconee Nuclear Station (Seneca, SC) Duke Energy Headquarters (Charlotte, NC)

Raleigh Corporate Office (Raleigh, NC) Brunswick Nuclear Plant (Southport, NC)

Harris Nuclear Plant (New Hill, NC) Robinson Nuclear Plant (Hartsville, SC)

Qualifications
: Basic:

– Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Health Physics, Physics, Chemistry, or

Environmental Health Physics major with two completed years of studies from an accredited University.

– Demonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

– Based on a 4-point scale, cumulative GPA of 2.5.

– Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills.

– Interest in working in the energy industry.

Desired:

– Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills.

– Demonstrated ability to work independently.

– Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

– Based on a 4-point scale, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 of higher.

– Completed some specific classes in health physics or radiation protection.

– Interest in working in the radiation protection field.

Specific Requirements:

– Must meet the criteria for unescorted nuclear access.

– Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed.

Working Conditions:

– Office and plant environment – requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing, and occasional exposure to temperature, noise, and radiation.

– Highly procedural and process-oriented structure due to strict regulatory requirements.
