The Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.
The Studio Museum in Harlem’s internship program provides college students and recent graduates with a wide range of experiences designed to provide insight into the daily workings of a professional museum environment. Interns engage in a series of workshops, meetings, offsite visits and public programs.
The Studio Museum is seeking applicants for the following internship positions:
DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Development interns work closely with the Associate Development Director to help with the Studio Museum’s fundraising and membership efforts. Primary responsibilities include assisting with grant report and proposal preparation, conducting research on corporations and foundations, and organizing mailings of information to donors and prospects. Previous design, marketing and public relations experience is helpful but not required.
The Development Internship is designed for undergraduate students and recent graduates interested in careers in Arts Administration, Museum Studies, Marketing, or related fields. Fine Arts majors are encouraged to apply.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PROGRAMS INTERN
The Community Engagement and Programs Intern will work closely with the Manager of Community Engagement and Programs on researching speakers and program participants, processing contracts, check requests, formatting presentations, and other administrative tasks. The intern will also remain on site during programs and events to assist with setup and closing of public programs. Projects and tasks are designed to provide the intern with insight into public programming with the museum context. Applicant must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be proficient in Microsoft word, excel and power point. Some evenings are required.
The Community Engagement and Programs Internship is designed for undergraduate students interested in careers in Arts Administration, Art History, programming, production, or related fields.
Dates of Spring internship: January 27, 2014 – May 2, 2014 (14 weeks)
Required commitment: Minimum 21 hours/week
Stipend: $2250
