Internship, Childrenswear Design – Summer 2014 (Paid)

Responsible for supporting the design team in all aspects of creating and executing the seasonal collection (from concept to final proto samples)
- Work with the designers and graphic artists to create initial pattern concepts in prints, yarn dyes, and graphics
- Maintain fabric, trim and original store bought sample libraries
- Work to establish color standards and ensure approvals are coordinated among different fabrics, yarns, trims and product categories
- Prepare board presentations and showrooms to be ready for meetings
- Create tech packs
- Spec proto samples to ensure they are up to standards, i.e. measurement, checking pattern layouts, yarn, color and quality standards
- Design, recreate, manipulate, recolor prints, and resize artwork
- Maintain showrooms, closets and samples in good condition for use by the merchandising team
- Collaborate with a cross functional intern team to research and resolve a business challenge to then present to senior management
Skills and Requirements
- Matriculated in a Bachelor’s degree program in design (rising juniors, seniors, or graduating in 2014)
- Demonstrated interest in the fashion industry through prior internship experiences, course selections, or extracurricular activities
- Ability to work in NYC for the full 10 week summer program from June 2, 2014 to August 8, 2014
- Team player with the ability to handle high stress work environment
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and multi-task
- Basic garment or accessories construction knowledge required
- Proficient in the following programs: Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, Word
