POSITION TITLE: PBS KIDS Marketing & Communications Summer Intern (SUMMER 2014)
DEPARTMENT: PBS KIDS Marketing & Communications
SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads and recent grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)
TIME COMMITTMENT : 20-40 hours/week (TBD), May – August 2014
INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVE:
The intern will learn about local activation strategies around PBS KIDS content and services including social media, marketing, development, special events and educational outreach activities related to PBS KIDS.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Create localizable social media content for station use designed to support PBS KIDS marketing & communications priorities.
Conduct a survey of PBS member stations to understand the scope of current parent and community outreach and marketing activities.
Identify stations engaging in successful or innovative activities that could serve as a model for adoption by other stations.
PROJECT SPECIFICS / DELIVERABLES:
Develop and distribute monthly social media and e-newsletter content for station use.
Develop, execute and complete station survey regarding PBS KIDS marketing and local outreach activities.
Update station database as needed with new information.
Identify stations for case studies and conduct follow-up interviews, if possible.

PREFERED EDUCATION/MAJOR/GPA:
Some coursework in Marketing, Communications, and/or Public Relations required
GPA of 3.5 or higher required
Junior standing or higher
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Experience conducting primary research
Experience in social media
OTHER DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:
Understanding of general marketing and communications principles
Experience developing research projects
Understanding of children’s media
Understanding of non-profit organizations and their operations
SKILLS THE INTERN MIGHT GAIN:
Experience in developing social media for a children’s media enterprise
Insight into how a franchise or membership-based organization operates
Experience in developing and executing a comprehensive primary research project
