POSITION TITLE : Intern, Marketing/Station Relations, PBS LearningMedia (SUMMER 2014)
DEPARTMENT: PBS LearningMedia
SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads & recent grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)
TIME COMMITTMENT : May – August 2014, 30-40 hours/week

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVE:
Work with PBS LearningMedia team to further develop and execute various marketing and station relations initiatives

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Help evaluate, identify, and promote trends in the social media space
Lead effort to grow Twitter/Facebook following
Work with digital marketing to define and develop email marketing segments using Silverpop system
Update contact databases and distribute monthly welcome emails
Research, write and edit case studies featuring top stations utilizing PBS LearningMedia Custom and driving engagement in their local communities
Help marketing and station relations team prepare to launch back-to-school campaigns (creative development, secure external advertising, write marketing communications messaging)
Assist with administrative tasks related to the deployment of Custom products and services (support efforts of team in creating status updates, webinars, trainings, etc…);
Actively search out topics/articles of importance to public media industry to share to Education team;
Monitor forums and sites for conversations relative to the education space
Work with head of engagement to cultivate an online community of education bloggers to discuss and collaborate on projects, relevant issues and new technologies; and
Participate in social media conversations via establish social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, while exploring new and alternative platforms such as Google+.

PROJECT SPECIFICS / DELIVERABLES:
Develop social media plan with recommendations on education market penetration
Develop 4-6 station case studies in concert with Station Relations team
Create marketing communications copy for multiple campaigns (includes email, digital ads, social media messaging)

PREFERED EDUCATION/MAJOR/GPA:
Marketing or Communications/3.0+

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:
Proficiency with social media platforms (specifically Twitter, Facebook and various blogging tools); knowledge of emerging social media platforms and online communications tools;
Proficiency in marketing concepts
Excellent writing, editing, and research skills and strong spelling and grammar skills; Specifically writing for blogs, e-newsletters, and product documentation;
Strong skills in typing/word processing, spreadsheets, electronic communications systems, using the Internet, Outlook, and Microsoft Office;
Solid organizational and diplomatic skills;
Excellent communication skills

OTHER DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:
Knowledge of Graphic Design (e.g. – Photoshop), Web Design (e.g. – DreamWeaver) and video recording and editing applications (e.g. – Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro) preferred but not required.

SKILLS THE INTERN MIGHT GAIN:
Experience in developing and launching marketing campaigns and social media initiatives
Experience in customer relationship building
Knowledge and experience of the issues and opportunities of working in a digital media environment;
Building a solid portfolio of a variety of writing, and marketing and communication samples;
Knowledge of emerging online technologies, products and concepts;
Knowledge and experience of working in Public Media; and
Valuable networking connections.
