County Government Summer Internship Opportunity for 2017!
The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is pleased to announce the opportunity of a county government summer internship program. This program is designed to provide publically minded students a great opportunity to learn first-hand about county and state government in North Carolina.
The program is open to both graduate students and undergraduate upperclassmen. Undergraduate students will participate in a rotation through several key association functions including government affairs and advocacy, public policy research, communications, and association management and member services. In addition, they will travel the state with two of our field staff, visiting and working with local government leaders across North Carolina. Graduate students will focus primarily on particular projects for the entire summer, leaving with concrete examples of public sector work that represent their best efforts in a real world setting. Graduate students will also go on field visits and be a part of life at the NC General Assembly.
Both graduate and undergraduate interns will participate in lunches and get-togethers with public policy makers and influencers throughout the summer. As a capstone to the program, each intern will be asked to make a presentation to the NCACC’s 50 member Board of Directors, and be a part of the organization’s Annual Conference in Forsyth County, NC.
Depending on the structure of the internship, interns may be paid a competitive hourly rate based on the level of education attained to date.
While this particular internship program is relatively new, the Association has been a proud sponsor of youth leadership opportunities for many years, including YouthVoice (YouthVoice.com) for high school students, and the NCACC County Management Fellowship Program (County-Management-Fellowship-Program.com) for recent or future MPA graduates.
All those interested should complete an application at www.ncacc.org/internship and forward a resume to Julie Totten at julie.totten@ncacc.org. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled. Please contact Dr. Linda Struyk Millsaps at (919) 715-4362 or linda.millsaps@ncacc.org with any questions.
