United Way Pitt County- Director

Position Title: Community Impact & Communications Director, United Way, Pitt County

 

Report to: Executive Director                                  

Purpose of Position:            Support and advance United Way’s mission by directing the development, implementation and evaluation of our community impact.  Build relationships with community partners that advance the United Way’s community impact agenda.  Develop and direct the overall organizational marketing, communications and branding strategy to support United Way’s mission and community impact agenda.

 

Provide Professional Staff Support to:  United Way’s Community Impact Cabinet, Focus Area Sub-Committees and the Communications & Marketing Committee.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 Community Impact

  • Develop and manage the United Way’s grant application process.
  • Develop reporting methods to measure progress of community impact initiatives for United Way’s funded community partner organizations such as mid-year and final reports, and logic models.
  • Identify and promote educational and collaborative opportunities for community organizations.
  • Promote advocacy efforts for United Way’s community impact issues.
  • Present progress and outcomes of community impact initiatives to staff, community partners, volunteers, and the community-at-large.
  • Participate in collaborative work groups and community task forces as needed.
  • Plan and develop Community Impact budget with Executive Director. Execute resources within the constraints of the approved budget.
  • Implement and expand Imagination Library and early literacy research, enrollment events and activities in collaboration with the Books from Birth Early Literacy Coalition of ENC.
  • Supervise Early Literacy Project Coordinator

Communication & Marketing

  • Develop strategies to increase awareness of United Way’s programs via content development, social media, email campaigns, and community partnerships.
  • Use a variety of methods and techniques to achieve communication goals such as news releases, radio and television scripts, giving directories, feature articles, personal appearances, news conferences, exhibits, brochures, attendance at relevant community meetings, advertisements, social media, information packets, flyers etc.
  • Analyze current market and trends in order to improve outreach efforts
  • Establish and develop effective relationships with media representatives and public affairs personnel.
  • Direct the design and content of and update the United Way’s website and social networking sites on a continual basis.
  • Provide consultative advice for written content used for resource development materials including but not limited to: giving directories, donation solicitation letters, etc.
  • Direct online end-of-year and sustained-giving campaigns.

 Resource Development

  • Distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.
  • Research and prepare grant proposals and applications.
  • Develop relationship with local and state-wide foundations.
  • Collaborate with Development Director to implement Development Committee.
  • Collaborates with Executive Director and Development Director to engage donors or prospective donors as needed.

 Other

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be available to travel regularly in execution of duties and responsibilities.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Experience with writing news releases, public service announcements, newsletter content, etc. for a variety of audiences.  Demonstrated ability to compose correspondence and reports for high level officials and administrators. Excellent analytical skill in researching and interpreting data, and presenting analyses both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Public Policy or Human Services

Preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the human services field with leadership experience in community organization, program development, administration and fiscal oversight required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in public relations or communications is strongly preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required.  Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; Content Management Software; and electronic newsletter software is required.

§  Excellent written, oral, presentation, and facilitation skills required.

  • Non-profit, strategic planning, grant writing and supervisory experience preferred.
