Director of Church Communications
First Presbyterian Church, Wilson, NC
Employment Status: Permanent full-time
Purpose: This position is responsible for managing the communications of First Presbyterian.
Primary Duties
- Publications
- Creation and design work related to FPC branding/logo for FPC and its ministries
- Printed materials
- Web Page and internet presence
- Youth, APP, and/or Weekday School T-shirts
- Design, print, produce:
- Weekly Bulletins (11am, Early Light, Bethany, Frank Price)
- Weekly emailed Chitter Chatter
- Bulletin inserts
- Bulletins for all special services (funerals, weddings, Lovefeast, Evensong, etc.)
- Weekday School materials (staff manuals, student handbooks, programs, brochures)
- FPC correspondence materials (stationery, postcards, notecards, foldovers, envelopes)
- Stewardship Campaign materials (pledge cards, brochures, letters, postcards, etc.), as well as other Finance Committee items (memorial cards, special offering envelopes, etc)
- Special event invitations and communications
- Worship items (Hymnal labels, prayer cards, baptismal certificates, etc)
- FPC Operations Manual
- Brochures (Pastoral Counseling, Weddings at FPC, Baptisms at FPC, Death/Dying, Weekday School)
- Banners/Signage/ Bulletin Boards
- FPC Member Directories (design/export/print/cut/bind/distribute)
- Easter Lilly/Poinsettia items (order forms, inserts)
- DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
- Web page management and updates
- Uploading weekly sermons
- Email correspondence for large church-wide or target audience contacts
- Social Media post
III. Church Calendar/Scheduling
- Manage the FPC master calendar and checklist
- Manage requests for use of property
- Manage room reservations (Dudley, Clark Hall, etc.)
- Manage table/chair reservations
- Manage flower schedule
- Church Data/Session Records
- Manage and upkeep all session registers and records
- Provide database exports for staff and congregation
- Provide database exports for Presbyterian Women Directories
- Oversee the data collection and entry of births, deaths, baptisms, marriages, transfers, etc
- Prepare FPC’s annual report to the congregation
- Prepare FPC’s annual statistical report as required by PCUSA
- Prepare Session Packets (and the mailing of such items if necessary)
- Maintain and provide list of living elders/deacons for officer nominating committee
- Maintain Sunday Responsibility schedule chart
- Maintain church office volunteer list
And other essential items as assigned.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
- Academic degree in a communications related field or related experience;
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Publisher, Mail Chimp, Adobe Creative Suites, and Word Press and/or a quick learning to those tools;
- Experience in creating graphics, publications and other communications

- Detail-oriented, a perfectionists regarding own work;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Takes initiative and is innovative. Always thinking about improving the model.
- Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks at one time;
- Able to set deadlines and meet them. Gracious yet firm in helping congregation meet deadlines;
- Flexible working style. Open to new things and to working outside the job description;
- Open and receptive to ideas and feedback, from a variety of people;
- Information curious, a desire to continually add to knowledge base;
- Good judgment and an ability to discern when discretion is needed;
- Honors confidentiality and sensitive to work environment with high degree of emotional attachments;
- Strong ethics and integrity;
- Eager to support the church’s purpose, goals, policies and programs.
