American Athletic Conference (AAC) seeks a for-credit campus correspondent for the conference. Successful candidates will cover ECU sports for the AAC. This position includes exposure via social media and online for stories you produce. Cover ECU sports this year and build your sports journalism experience!

Students must have taken COMM 2225 Video News Production. Multiplatform journalism course is a plus.

MISSION
To provide currently enrolled students from all 13 member institutions the opportunity to
enhance journalistic skills, video editing experience, and storytelling through the American
Digital Network platform.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The American Digital Network tells the stories of student-athletes across the
conference’s 13 different campuses. While The ADN creates daily on-demand
and live content from the conference headquarters in Providence, Rhode
Island, it is in search of passionate students who can bring the digital network
unique stories straight from campus. Students will be responsible for shooting,
editing, and uploading content for use on The American’s digital platforms.
DUTIES
• Be ready and willing to execute projects as assigned – each student
should be prepared to pitch ideas as well as receive projects unique to
their institution
• Plan, shoot, and edit features from beginning to end – this includes, but is
not limited to, script writing, narrating, standups, and giving the story a
“polished” look
• Shoot footage or interviews upon request
• Available to assist with video coverage at conference championships
hosted by individual’s institution
• Capable of completing assignments as a “one-man band”
• Complete a minimum of two projects per month
QUALIFICATIONS
• Currently enrolled at one of The American’s 13 member institutions
• Passionate and knowledgeable about college sports – specifically teams
on accepted applicant’s campus
• Interest in pursuing a sports broadcasting career
• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
• A positive “can-do” attitude looking to gain experience in sports
journalism

EXPECTATIONS
• Correspondents are expected to meet deadlines, push the envelope, and
strive to create compelling stories from campus.
• Accepted applicant will get out what they put in to this program – it is a
great opportunity to gain practice and experience, while getting work
seen on the conference’s digital platforms
• Communication in key – we understand that students have busy class
schedules, so as long as deadlines are properly communicated then we
will be flexible.
• Professional behavior is expected when interviewing coaches/athletes
and attending practices, games, or school events
EQUIPMENT
• Equipment is provided by the conference office and includes – camera,
tripod, camera light, microphone, XLR cable, camera bag, mic flag and
SD card
• Athletic Department video contact will “house” conference equipment. It
is the accepted applicant’s responsibility to return, maintain and protect
equipment for duration of school year
• Note: must have a computer/software available to edit packages –
conference will not provide a laptop or editing software.
COMPENSATION
• Compensation is based on the quality and amount of content turned in.
• Correspondents will earn $40 for each project that is accepted and posted
on The ADN’s digital platforms – not to exceed $400 per semester. For
highlights/footage requested from the conference office, an extra $20 per
assignment will be allotted (not included in the $400 per semester cap).
• A $200 bonus will be awarded to the student who submits the best
project of the semester as voted on by The American’s Communications

staff. To be eligible for bonus, student must complete a minimum of five
projects that semester.
• Correspondents are independent contractors and are NOT employees of
the American Athletic Conference.
