Looking for creative students (anyone really) with good ideas for the 2018 PILOT Innovation Challenge. Please spread the word to your students and colleagues.
This year’s challenge question is What is an innovative way broadcasters and other local media could serve communities? It’s an opportunity to win up to $30,000 to advance an idea. We’re awarding one prize each in the amounts of $30,000, $25,000 and $20,000 and three prizes in the amount of $15,000.
Winners also get mentoring from and exposure to industry leaders. We’ll bring six finalists to Seattle to present to industry executives on Jan. 27, 2019 as well as to NAB Show in Las Vegas in April 2019. Of last year’s six finalists, three were from universities (University of Maryland, Ohio University and University of Colorado Boulder).
You can submit ideas online now through Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.
I’m happy to answer any questions. In fact, I’m holding a virtual office hours about the challenge on Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. ET. Dial in details are included below.
