Program Overview and Job Description
The RISE 29 program will harness the intellectual strengths and research resources of ECU, and the motivations and passion of ECU’s students to improve the long-term quality of life, health, education and employment for the people of our region and their communities. ECU is committed to rural prosperity by leveraging resources from all corners of the university.
Students working with RISE 29 will have the opportunity to learn and experience innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement by working with faculty researchers, university administrators, mentors and external partners. This immersive and experiential learning opportunity will allow students to consult on projects for external partners including industry, local government, nonprofit, NGOs, and small businesses across eastern North Carolina.
For this position, students must be able to effectively communicate through news and feature writing the stories of eastern North Carolina businesses and industries. Students will be asked to write articles, published in a variety of traditional, digital and social platforms, that reflect economic prosperity in the region. Students may partner with internal and external communications audiences to share these stories. In addition, students may support marketing efforts led by RISE 29 to promote eastern North Carolina industries.
Students will work with the Vice Chancellor for Research, Economic Development, and Engagement, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement, and the Director of the Miller School of Entrepreneurship on projects related to the RISE 29 program.
This position will begin in May and will continue through the end of June as 30-40 hour a week job. At the end of June, there is possibility of this job carrying over into summer session two at 30-40 hours, and into fall session and beyond at 20 hours depending on the student. Pay rate is $10.00 per hour.
Eligibility
ECU undergraduate student with an interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, communications and journalism, or community engagement. Preference for juniors or seniors of any major, especially with entrepreneurship, consulting or business development experience.
