Regional Admissions Counselor for Virginia

The Undergraduate Admissions Office is responsible for identifying, attracting, recruiting, and enrolling students in sufficient numbers to meet the University’s enrollment projections while improving the academic profile of the incoming student population. The office annually processes approximately 36,000 applications for admission. These include freshmen, transfer, readmit, visitor, non-degree, pre-college, and auditor students. In order to generate and process applications from these prospective students, the office is involved in many public relations, marketing, customer service, and other outreach activities to cultivate inquiries for additional information about ECU/application materials. These inquiries are received via mail, phone, email, and third party search sources and currently exceed well over 100,000 in quantity for one calendar year.

This Counselor (located in eastern VA) is responsible for supporting the recruitment of freshmen and transfer students to East Carolina University. Reports information related to the outcomes of recruitment initiatives to include budgetary impact and enrollment funnel data for the designated territory. Presents information sessions at East Carolina University and in high schools, community colleges, college fairs, community programs and other special events. Advises and counsels prospective students and families on the educational opportunities at ECU, admission criteria, policies and procedures, academic and major scholarship programs and student services within the university. Engages high school counselors and administrators to steward strong relationships with feeder and emerging schools. Participates in the holistic review of applications and makes recommendations for admission based on a comprehensive assessment of candidates. Participates in regular professional development and training initiatives related to the CRM and Banner systems through which information is stored and managed. Coordinates all electronic admissions data for incoming applications. Reviews application data to determine admissibility and makes decisions based on established criteria from the Director of Admissions. Represents the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at University meetings and committees where appropriate. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director for Recruitment or the Director of Admissions.

Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university and one year of related experience. Communication and interpersonal skills are imperative for this position.
