ZSR Fellowship

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation offers one two-year, full-time, paid fellowship (beginning July 1st) to an individual who demonstrates an interest in philanthropy, public policy, community service and/or the nonprofit sector. This position is salaried at $44,000 in the first year and $46,000 in the second year, accompanied by competitive benefits.

The fellow acquires increasing responsibility over the course of two years in evaluating grant proposals, visiting with grant applicants and grantees, assisting with grantmaking administration, managing the Non-Profit Internship Program, working on projects of importance to the Foundation, and providing additional support to Foundation staff as needed. Through the grant process and related programs, the fellow gains experience with nonprofit organizations, public policy, Foundation trustees and other leaders across North Carolina. Each fellow has the opportunity to support projects related to the current priority areas of the Foundation. The fellowship is structured to enable the fellow to explore areas of interest to their professional development and that align with the Foundation’s goals, mission and vision.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates must have roots in or be current residents of North Carolina and/or graduates of an accredited North Carolina college or university. Further qualifications include strong communication skills, both written and verbal; the ability to multi-task; the desire to contribute to an ever-changing work environment; a sense of responsibility and personal initiative; willingness to work as a team player; and respect for diverse communities and leadership. Preference is given to recent college/university graduates. People of color are encouraged to apply.

Expected Timeline

After the application deadline, an initial review of the applications will be completed. After this review, between approximately eight and ten applicants will be chosen to be interviewed by Foundation staff. Applicants not chosen to be interviewed will be notified by email. After initial interviews, second-round interviews are anticipated to take place by late February. Final decisions will be made shortly thereafter. The fellowship will begin around July 1, 2023.
