Washington Newsmedia LLC, a media group in eastern North Carolina that publishes a twice-weekly newspaper, bi-monthly magazine and several niche publications, is looking for a reporter to join its award winning staff.
The reporter will cover crime, local government and other beats and duties as assigned. This is not a behind-the-desk reporting position. The reporter will be expected to spend time in the communities they cover, developing relationships and pursuing leads on stories.
This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits and chances for advancement within our newspaper and company with top performance. We practice all-local, community journalism in a 47,000-population county just 20 minutes from the college town of Greenville, N.C.
Qualified candidates will have one to three years of general-assignment reporting experience, digital fluency, a curious nature and the desire to tell stories in new and creative ways. Recent graduates with pertinent experience will be considered; internship and/or student publication experience is a major plus. Photography skills are desired; in any case, we will train the right candidate.
Using “reporter” in the subject line, email your resume, three work samples and three professional references to ashley.vansant@thewashingtondailynews.com. Your work samples should include at least one piece of hard news reporting and one feature story.
