Z. Smith Reynolds Internship – diversity internship with Coastal Federation

Applications are now being accepted for a summer internship opportunity for college students who want to educate and engage the community in coastal conservation.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Internship is a paid internship for eligible students from diverse backgrounds that have not received the same equal opportunities as others. The internship is based at the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s southeast office in Wrightsville Beach.

The intern is to perform the following:

  • Work as part of the southeast regional office team to implement coastal education and engagement activities to support the federation’s community outreach, habitat restoration, and water quality initiatives. 
  • Assist education, advocacy, and restoration program staff with the research, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of regional projects.
  • Help plan and promote special and reoccurring events, such as volunteer, education, and fundraising events.
  • Assist with digital marketing strategies and contribute to the federation website and social media channels. 
  • Work with staff to develop and implement tools, activities, and events to engage the community at the Coastal Education Center and recruit new members. 

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, in an effort to diversify the pool of young nonprofit professionals in North Carolina, t established the Non-Profit Internship Program in 2011. Since 2011, the program has awarded paid internship opportunities to more than 200 Pell Grant-eligible college and university students enrolled in four-year institutions across the state.
