UNIT OVERIVEW: The Department of Human Resources serves the ECU community through innovation and action in the development and management of the University’s human resources. The staff works to support the mission of the University with an overarching commitment to outstanding customer service and accountability. The department consists of seven units that oversee the entire human resources function to include policy administration, recruitment and selection, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, career development and training, classification and compensation, information systems, and data reporting. Personnel matters are governed by state statutes, UNC Policy Manual, and The Code of the University of North Carolina, and most processes and actions are prescribed by these governing documents. Human Resources plays a critical role in ensuring ECU is accountable and compliant in terms of Federal, State, and UNC System human resources practices.
JOB DUTIES: This position reports to the Director of Employee Relations in the Department of Human Resources. The primary focus of responsibility is to provide excellent customer service to all customers, provide employee relations services to assigned university divisions, as well as using technologies to complete many Employee Relations processes. Works to support the work of the Employee Relations Unit and the work of its HR Consultants. The position will have a degree of independence in policy interpretation, project development, and service delivery with coordination/support from his/her supervisor, the Director of Employee Relations. Independent judgment is required in many functional areas. Must be able to utilize computer software. Decisions made will be within policy guidelines, university processes, etc. This position will also evaluate processes and recommend options for efficiency and service improvements. Work requires the ability to identify patterns, aggregate data, and interpret policies. The position also requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
