Overview: The North Carolina Conservation Network is seeking candidates for campus organizing fellows in North Carolina. The fellowship is 5-8 hours per week of on campus organizing in the Spring and Fall of 2022 (Feb-May and Sept-Nov of 2022). This is a paid position that will include public outreach to the community and students regarding environmental issues such as climate action, as well as a non-partisan campaign to help students vote in 2022.
About us: The NC Conservation Network is a statewide network of approximately 75 environmental, health, and environmental justice organizations. The NC Conservation Network directly advocates for equitable and sustainable solutions for our environment and public health.
Description: Campus Organizing Fellows will receive a first-hand experience in working for a statewide environmental nonprofit, collaborate with student fellows at other campuses, and be on the front lines of efforts to engage students in their area.
Responsibilities
The Fellow’s responsibilities will involve:
- Raising awareness on important environmental issues in North Carolina through events or actions,
- Asking people/students to act on issues by signing petitions, emailing legislators, or attending events,
- Recruiting new volunteers who are passionate about environmental conservation and climate action,
- Working with allied groups and students to amplify non-partisan voter education campaigns,
- Educating students and the community about where/when/how to vote in the 2022 elections.
Qualifications
Required:
Must be student at a university in Charlotte, Greensboro, Boone, the Triangle, Greenville, or Wilmington, NC. Student must be enrolled through November of 2022 (not including summer break) and must be vaccinated for COVID-19 as there will be in-person interactions with the community.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates will have a major, minor or strong interest in communications, political science, environmental studies, or public policy.
- Knowledge and comfort with public speaking and asking people to take action on issue campaigns, such as climate change.
- Ability to work as part of a team and motivate volunteers to take action.
- Interest in environmental, environmental justice, and public health issues, especially those impacting North Carolina.
- Good understanding of the dynamics of North Carolina and what’s happening on campus.
Salary/Benefits
The stipend will be $150 a week, for a total of $3600 for the full 22-week program.

Location and deadline: The fellowship will be done on the student’s campus or in the nearby communities and include weekly video meetings with our staff. Locations for fellows include Charlotte, Greensboro, Boone, Triangle, Greenville, and Wilmington. While applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, it is recommended to apply by January 7th.
