Position Details

The Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) moves forward from the tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps to engage young people in conservation service projects through meaningful work on the land.

CCNC in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking 2 interns who will engage with visitors and members of the local community both in-person and virtually as they interpret the site that commemorates the first successful power-driven airplane flight. The interns will interact with the general public by providing front-line services at the visitor center, developing audience-centered interpretive experiences, creating original social media content, facilitating curriculum-based education programs, assisting at special events, and aiding in the production of interpretive videos for the park website. The interns will help connect other youth to the NPS and WBNM by representing and more effectively reaching younger audiences on site and through social media. The incumbents will be provided training in 21st century, audience-centered interpretation and customer service best practices.

Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and presenting engaging, audience-centered, formal and informal interpretive programs
  • Providing quality customer service to park visitors by operating park visitor center and performing roving interpretation
  • Creating original interpretive media content (social media, park website, interpretive videos, etc.)
  • Facilitating curriculum-based education programs (on-site, in-classroom, or virtually)
  • Assisting at special events
  • Knowing and following park procedures for safe operations during COVID-19
  • Performing other collateral duties as assigned, based on need of park and interest/skills of intern
