Campus Recreation and Wellness Program Overview:
Campus Recreation & Wellness at East Carolina University provides the following programs and services for the campus community: Intramural Sports; Physical Activity & Fitness; Informal Recreation; Club Sports; Adventure Programs; Adapted Recreation; Youth and Family; Aquatics/Safety Services, Well-Being, and Special Events. Facilities include a state of the art 150,000 square foot Student Recreation Center, an 18-acre multi-sport field complex, a Challenge Course, and a 129-acre sports complex which includes sport fields, a six-acre lake, disc golf course, boathouse, walking/jogging trails, outdoor fitness equipment, sandy beach area, beach volleyball, courts, and an Odyssey Challenge Course.

Position Summary:
Marketing interns directly support the marketing assistants in a variety of daily duties. Candidates should possess initiative, the ability to work independently, and be driven to learn. Available for College of Business or School of Communication class credit.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Special Projects:

  • Assist in quality control process by proofing and reviewing graphic design work; web site content, graphics, and appearance; and checking other printed materials such as press releases, Student Announce (Pirate 411), Student Affairs On-Deck Newsletter.
  • Identifying relevant CRW stories, developing materials, and writing copy for press releases, web site, newsletters, listserv messages, and articles.
  • Assist in marketing area operations such as distribution of materials, electronic filing, inventory, office duties, banner posting and rotation, etc.
  • Photography of events and organization of photographs.

Graphic Design:

  • Utilize a variety of programs to create marketing materials for program areas to include bulletin board calendars, program flyers, and banners. 

Assessment:

  • Assist in the development of marketing and promotional campaigns for events and program areas.
  • Identify emerging social media outlets trends CRW can utilize to better reach and recruit participants and nonparticipants.
  • Assist with the design, collection, and analysis of data collected through various avenues including but not limited to surveys,

direct observations, focus groups, social media analytics, and other analytic data.

  • Conduct research on new marketing trends and mediums. Solicit feedback from participants and non-participants through on-site informal interviews.

Social Media:

  • Maintenance and continued development of the Instagram, TikTok, Facebook page, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media including appropriate utilization of site features to market upcoming events and services
  • Create weekly and special event social media calendars.
  • Create/write/compile/edit content for the CRW website, Parent, and Student Affairs On Deck newsletters as well as direct email campaigns (CRW Listserv and ECU Pirate 411)
  • Attend CRW special events to perform live social media coverage

CRW Outreach:

  • Work with CRW staff in the development, delivery, and promotion of a bi-monthly communication medium (newsletter, email, blog, etc.)
  • Assist in tabling and street team activities for CRW and ECU to promote any upcoming activities and school spirit.
  • Assist in development of presentation content, soliciting and coordination of presentations for student organizations, campus groups, departments, academic classes, and others as deemed appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Communication & organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of social media outlets
  • Flexible schedule (nights and weekends as needed)
  • Available to work approximately 8-12 hours per week
