About Rural Opportunity Institute

Rural Opportunity Institute (ROI) is a startup nonprofit that supports people’s healing from generational trauma to achieve health, safety, connection, and self-determination. ROI supports youth, organizations, and communities in rural North Carolina to interrupt the cycle of generational trauma and design innovative solutions for healing & resilience. 

Job Description 

Rural Opportunity Institute is seeking a part-time Copywriter (3-5 hours/week) who will execute on our content strategy, focusing on innovative content creation, responding to editing and reporting requests, and upholding brand guidelines. This role is pivotal in delivering compelling content, increasing awareness, and supporting other organizational objectives.

Examples of activities/projects you will work on:

  • Draft and publish emails, social media posts, website copy, and other content deliverables
  • Respond to basic editing and reporting requests in a timely manner
  • Contribute to ROI special content projects as needed
  • Meet with the Marketing team on a biweekly basis to discuss priorities and progress
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Director of Marketing and Communications, Co-Founders, Director of Systems Innovation, Director of Operations, and vendors
  • [Preferred, but not required:] Develop/edit basic templates using graphic design software
  • [Preferred, but not required:] Connection to rural communities and/or Eastern NC

Qualities needed to be successful: 

  • Writing and editing skills to craft messaging across various channels and audiences (especially community members)
  • Coachable with a desire to learn, grow, and respond to feedback
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment
  • Proactive communicator, asks for help when needed, asks clarifying questions, defines what success looks like through conversations with team members
  • Always looking to learn, open to receiving feedback and improving upon it
  • Team player, able to manage group dynamics and work with many different personality styles

How to apply

This is a part-time position starting at 3-5 hours/week. Compensation is in the $25/hr range. This position is based in Rocky Mount, NC with the potential for some remote work.
