Interns work under the direction of a designated City of Richmond leader performing specific and general job duties that prepares them successfully to enter the workforce upon graduation.

Example of Duties:
The City of Richmond Internship Program is a mayoral initiative to attract current undergraduates who are enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at a four year college or university. Internships will be offered throughout the following City departments for the s pring semester :
Budget Parks and Recreation Public Utilities Public Works Internship opportunities are open to a broad range of disciplines depending upon the availability of positions within each department.
The City’s Internship program is an exceptional learning experience which focuses on studying City government while enhancing the leadership capacities needed for effective government and community problem solving.
Interns will serve in semester long appointments during which they will gain knowledge and skillsets pertaining to City department projects. Students will also reflect upon their own personal experiences through reflective journals and papers.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:
Eligibility To be classified as an intern in this program, each of the following criteria must be met: · The student must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, be in good academic standing (as defined below), and be registered for courses during the internship period. Summer Interns do not have to be enrolled in summer school, but must be enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester; · Students must complete and submit an online application through the City of Richmond’s ROSS database for the vacancy internship job announcement. In addition, an unofficial college transcript and approval from the Academic Advisor or a Career Development Counselor must be submitted as an attachment with the online application ; · Students may be required to submit an official copy of their transcripts upon hire if chosen for internship opportunities. · Students must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and are required to present proof of such eligibility prior to beginning work; · Students must have completed 60 credit hours and have at least a 2.0 overall grade point average or better.
