North Carolina Eastern Region

North Carolina’s Eastern Region (NCER) is seeking an intern for the summer semester 2012 to provide support to North Carolina’s Eastern Region in Lenoir County (Kinston). Students interested in public relations, marketing, tourism and/or website maintenance are encouraged to apply.  Activities will consist of assisting in marketing functions including social media, website maintenance, collateral material development and writing press releases. Assistant will work close with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to develop promotional strategies and will be responsible for other duties as assigned.
 
North Carolina’s Eastern Region (NCER) is an economic development agency serving 13 counties stretching from the Research Triangle to the Outer Banks.  It provides confidential site location assistance to companies seeking new sites/buildings for relocations or expansions, provides information on operating conditions (labor availability, training, community support) and operational expenses (wages, utilities, taxes, etc.), assists companies in connecting with local employers willing to provide testimonials on their experiences operating R&D, manufacturing, distribution, and back office facilities.  NCER possesses an experienced staff that has assisted foreign and domestic companies.  It also works in partnership with local Tourism Development Authorities to promote tourism and partners with the NC Department of Commerce International Trade Division and US Commercial service to promote exporting by area companies.  NCER is also involved in coordinating regional workforce development initiatives with area workforce development boards, public schools, community colleges and universities. The region is situated on I-95 midway between Boston and Miami with one million residents distributed among several small metropolitan areas.  A system of well-maintained freeways, railroads, and commercial airports along with proximity to three ports makes for great logistics.  The regional economy is diverse, consisting of a sizeable life science sector, advanced manufacturing, as well as traditional industries, tourism, and four military installations.
 
Qualifications: Graduate student in marketing, communications, tourism and/or related discipline.
 
Compensation – $10 (16 hours weekly)
Travel to NCER office in Kinston will be required most of the time.
