Rooftop Films Summer Internships

Rooftop Films is seeking interns for Summer 2012. A great opportunity for film, arts administration and nonprofit management students as well as young filmmakers: learn how a nonprofit film festival works and see hundreds of great movies. Internships are not paid, but can be done for school credit. Find out your school’s internship or field work credit requirements and we will work with you to accommodate them.

Our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F and G trains in Brooklyn, so please apply only if you will be able to handle that commute. We welcome graduate students and applicants finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or older.

FESTIVAL INTERNSHIP (5 positions available): Help with all aspects of planning and managing a film festival.

Internship tasks can include:
+ Organizing film screenings (including on-site show setup and breakdown) + Volunteer coordination + Marketing, promotions and community outreach + Writing blog posts + Audio and video tech work + Contacting, corresponding and hosting filmmakers + Organizing and maintaining film databases + Fundraising and development + General office and festival work + Anything else you might be interested in — we want you to see how we work

Candidates should have good experience working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and experience with Filemaker, HTML, design programs or video editing software is a plus.

Festival Internship candidates would be expected to average at least two days a week in the office and one evening show per weekend, but generally the more time you can commit the better.

Applications are due no later than April 30, 2012. If you are interested, please send a cover letter and resume to summer.intern@rooftopfilms.com. Please include “Festival Internship” in the subject line of your email.

EDITING INTERNSHIP (1 position available): Rooftop seeks a detail oriented and organized Editing Intern to help cut together a series of short film programs and promos for our summer film series.

The candidate should have:
+ Final Cut Pro editing experience + Photoshop and titling skills + Be comfortable with capturing footage (from DVD, mini dv) and assembling sequences + knowledge of DVD duplication (iDVD) is a plus

In addition to the above, internship tasks may include:
+ Assist with filmmaker relations, correspondence and tape traffic (coordination of tape delivery) + Organizing our tape library + General office and festival work

Candidates would be expected to average at least three days a week in the office (preferably M, T, W), but generally the more time you can commit the better.

Applications are due no later than April 30, 2012. If you are interested, please send a cover letter and resume to edit.intern@rooftopfilms.com. Please include “Editing Internship” in the subject line of your email.
