INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Interns gain insight into the publicity process while working at the CNN bureau in the nation’s capital. They strengthen their research and publicity skills while contributing to the network’s media relation efforts. Interns may have the opportunity to accompany publicists to Public Relations (PR) events, interviews, etc. The candidate will learn how to compile media lists, search for press clips, craft and execute pitches, and support publicists in day-to-day PR activities with Washington programming—both proactively and reactively. Interns may learn how to use LexisNexis, Cision, media editing programs to check the accuracy of transcripts, and assist in basic administrative tasks. The Intern’s schedule could vary and may include weekend and evening work, depending on breaking news and/or political programming.

Potential Opportunities:
Interns have the opportunity to participate in how publicity ideas are developed, how pitches are designed and executed, the release-writing process, and how publicity is built from a strategic perspective. Assist Washington publicists and support overall efforts of entire CNN PR department, including New York and Atlanta. The DC PR office is heavily focused on the political climate, the 2012 general election and upcoming special political programming.
