Seeking Media & Communications Interns
Internship Description
The internship program in the Office of Lt. Governor Walter Dalton offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to work inside of North Carolina’s state government. The Communications staff is currently recruiting interns on a part-time basis. Internship opportunities are unpaid, but can be conducted for academic credit. Internships are available on a rolling basis.
Responsibilities
Interns should be willing to work a minimum of 8 hours per week. Responsibilities will include assisting with:
- Drafting and managing blog postings
- Managing Web postings
- Developing social media presence
- Responding to media inquiries
- Scheduling interview requests
- Providing background materials for interviews and other /public events
- Drafting speeches, introductions, and talking points
- Drafting media advisories and releases
- Follow up to events including tracking media clips and requesting photos
- General office duties including filing and other administrative tasks
Qualifications
Students with a focus on public policy, government/political science, and communications/media may be particularly interested. Interns must be detail-oriented self-starters with the ability to work on several projects and tasks concurrently. Ideal candidates should possess strong communication skills, prior political/media experience, a sense of humor, and the ability to work in a team environment.
