Our State magazine – Short Documentary Film Contest

Our State magazine announces call for entries for short documentary film contest

GREENSBORO, NC (June 13, 2013) — Our State magazine invites amateur and professional filmmakers to submit entries for its first-ever short documentary film contest. The winning entry will correspond to the theme “Why I love North Carolina,” include original footage of North Carolina, and last no longer than eight minutes.

The creator of the winning submission will receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to screen the film at the Carrboro Film Festival November 23 – 24, 2013.

“North Carolina is filled with spectacular filmmaking talent, and I can’t wait to see our sense of home, the people we know, and the land we love showcased on film,” says contest judge Nic Beery, founder of the Carrboro Film Festival and owner of BeeryMedia.com.

Also serving on the panel of judges are Ted Mott, director of production at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival; Cynthia Hill, a North Carolina-based filmmaker whose works include the feature-length documentaries Tobacco Money Feeds My Family and The Guestworker; and Our State staff.

Submissions will be accepted from June 13, 2013 until September 30, 2013. To submit an entry, register at ourstate.com/documentary-film-contest. Read the official contest rules at ourstate.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Our-State-Documentary-Film-Contest-Rules.pdf.

The documentary film contest follows the success of Our State’s first-ever singer/songwriter competition in 2012. Given the overwhelming response of entries for the Carolina Songs competition, Our State has turned its sights to the big screen and aims to showcase North Carolina’s filmmaking talent and the best of life in the state.
