Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SMI, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates eight premier speedway facilities in significant markets across the country.

SMI is seeking potential interns with ambition and a strong desire to excel in the areas of public relations, corporate marketing and motorsports/large event management. College and graduate students with various backgrounds and degrees have had success in our program and continued a path to rewarding careers. The position will offer great networking possibilities for serious, career-minded students.

Specific Intern Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in devising marketing campaigns and proposals for existing clients and new prospects within the motorsports industry; assist in marketing presentations, research on events and other sports marketing opportunities and best practices; client service & partner interaction; special event planning & execution and other routine office duties. The ability to work with multiple divisions and departments of SMI which focus on all aspects of the motorsports industry is necessary.

As with all positions in sports, live events are spontaneous; must be able to work with a team in a fast-paced, event oriented environment and have fun!

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week in addition to all major events held during the semester. Hours during event time can require early morning arrival and late departures; including weekends. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Charlotte, NC area; SMI is headquartered at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Majors which would best fit the internship include: Marketing, Public Relations, Economics, Sports Management/Marketing, Hospitality & Entertainment Management and Motorsports specific degrees; additionally, we are open to other majors that may be interested in the event business.

This is an unpaid internship. As a token of gratitude, all interns who complete the semester internship and work the race events held during the semester internship will receive a stipend.
