Communications Internship
The Metropolitan Policy Program (Metro) is offering a summer internship for qualified candidates. Summer interns typically spend 20-40 hours per week in the Program depending on the intern’s availability for the duration of 12 weeks. Interns gain experience contributing to the work of the world’s leading think tank and undertake an independent research/academic project.
The communication internship is for individuals interested in communications, public relations, or journalism and how these fields relate to advancing the Metro Program’s impact. Duties typically include: pitching stories; maintaining press contacts/lists; and compiling clip reports.
Undergraduate students (especially upperclassmen), graduate students, and recent college graduates majoring in communications, English, public policy, urban policy, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Our most successful applicants possess strong writing, communications and interpersonal skills, demonstrated through previous experience.
Please note that all positions are unpaid . The summer internship period runs June through August.
Note that as part of this internship program, interns are required to complete an independent research/academic project of his or her choice and will make a presentation at the end of the internship. The project should be scaled to complete in approximately 100 hours and interns will receive regular feedback from Metro staff and scholars over the course of the internship.

To apply for the internship, please send a cover letter indicating your availability (approximate number of hours per week available to work and approximate start and end dates), resume, a brief (no more than 3 pages) writing sample and a maximum 200-word statement about your proposed independent research/academic project.
In the cover letter, please also discuss specifically why you are interested in an internship with the Metropolitan Policy Program and highlight the skills mentioned above. Send all materials to Ms. Michelle Carter at mlcarter@brookings.edu . Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
