We are currently seeking a Public Relations–HGTV and DIY Network Summer Intern to be located in our New York – 1180 office.

Application Deadline: April 28, 2014

This summer internship will begin on or after May 26, 2014 and end on or before August 15, 2014.

Anticipated hours per week: 40

Internship Qualifications

  • Rising junior, senior or graduate student at an accredited college/university (Applicants must have completed their sophomore year prior to the start of the internship)
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0
  • Previous internship experience, participation in college clubs/organizations or in-depth coursework in a related field
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States. Scripps Networks is unable to sponsor visas for interns. If you are an international student not already studying in the U.S. on a F-1 or J-1 visa, then you have to go through a university or an outside organization (internship placement agency) that will sponsor your visa.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, motivated and able to “hit the ground running”
  • Experienced with computers including Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft basic public relations materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, meeting summaries, status reports and other materials as directed.
  • Draft pitch letters, develop story ideas and initiate media telephone calls.
  • Learn about the management of newspaper/periodical and media screener inventories and the digital archive of media placements.
  • Learn to develop and update media lists and other databases.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions.
