The Wilkes Journal-Patriot (www.journalpatriot.com), a tri-weekly (Mon., Wed., Fri.) community newspaper with a paid circulation of 11,000 in North Wilkesboro, N.C., is seeking a self-motivated, reliable person with good interpersonal skills to fill a general assignment reporter’s position. Solid basic news writing skills are essential. Applicants also should at least have substantial experience writing for a student publication.

This reporter will cover the governments of Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro, North Wilkesboro Police Department and Wilkes Regional Medical Center. It includes feature writing when there is time, sharing turns at writing a personal column at least twice a month, covering events like MerleFest and the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival, taking photos and opportunities to shoot video and work with the newspaper’s website, Facebook and Twitter. Knowledge of InDesign is a plus.
