Radio Production- New Bern, NC Spring 2016- For credit with stipend

INTERNSHIP POSITION AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL TALK RADIO SHOW

We’re looking for an intern who is highly motivated, passionate about news, excited to share their ideas, and ready to work independently and as part of a team

 

The Show

City Talk is a fast-paced public affairs program hosted by Sabrina Bengel, former New Bern Alderman, business women, and local leader, and Lee Bettis, former Mayor of New Bern and practicing defense attorney.  Together they explore and debate topics ranging from local, state, and national news, in-depth interviews, quirky stories and a broad range of arts, music and entertainment features.

The Work

Interns are actively involved in the production of the weekly program.  They contribute ideas during editorial meetings; conceptualize, research, gather audio, and edit recorded material; post website descriptions, update social media accounts, work alongside program staff and assist with the live program.

What You Get

We train interns on some technical skills.  Aside from that, you’ll learn how a weekly radio program gets put together—by actually doing it. We’re a small staff, so we give interns more responsibility than most organizations. We’re committed to the personal growth of our interns:

This internship is also an excellent opportunity to interact with local and state government officials, community leaders, local business owners, leaders of faith institutions, local board members, law enforcement, court officials and lots of other wonderful and interesting people who are working hard to make Eastern NC a great place to live. A travel stipend will be provided in the amount of $100 per week.

Qualifications:

Strong working knowledge of Social Media

Deep curiosity, initiative, tenacity and attention to detail

Strong written and oral communication skills

Ability to work quickly, efficiently and accurately under deadline pressure

Knowledge/interest in local, state and national news, current events and politics.

What You Commit To:

At least two days per week (5-10 hours) for at least 3 months.  Friday Mornings from 7:00am – 10:00am however we are flexible on the additional hours.
