Summer Session and Blackboard 9

OK we all know that Blackboard 9 will be deployed for Summer Session 1.  So the question is do I work on my Summer course now or do I have to wait until May 9 when Blackboard 9 is deployed?  The answer is to just go ahead and work on your summer course on your current Blackboard site.  All content added to your site will be copied to your course in Blackboard 9.  One caveat to remember is that the Dropbox tool and the Homepage will not be available in Blackboard 9.  Sign up for one of the many Blackboard trainings to learn how to use the Assignment Tool in place of Dropbox and how students can create Blogs as their new Homepage.

The Office of Educational Technology is offering many times and dates for small hands on training, click here to access our calendar.

26 days until BB9 goes live!

I know not a day goes by without something about Blackboard 9.  Training, tips and lots of information.   You may have read them all but then wonder “what will my courses look like’?  Just go to bbdev.ecu.edu, login with your ECU credentials and you will see your courses in Blackboard 9.  This is what is called a “sandbox” site.  These are copies of your courses (content will not be current), you can explore, try things out and get a feel for what Blackboard 9 is all about.  Please note that anything that you do in your sandbox will remain in this site only.  If you who want to start working on your summer (or fall) courses, work in our current Blackboard version (8). When they migrate to Bb9 on May 9th, all of your courses – with content – will move over to Bb9 on the production server.

All Blackboard 9 Tutorials can be found here, they are short and you can pick and choose what you are interested in.

Trainings will continue on main campus as well as here on west campus.  Our office will be offering small hands on training during finals week through the beginning of summer semester and then again throughout the summer.  More information to follow on those dates and times.

Something New, Something Old

Blackboard 9 is going to be a major upgrade. There are many wonderful changes coming in Blackboard that we are sure you will love. To show off some of these changes and so you can begin to think about structuring your courses in the new platform this blog has been created as a joint effort of CON and CAHS to share tips, hints, tutorials, demos and information on BB9.

Welcome to BB9!

Yes the university is upgrading to Blackboard 9.  This is a major upgrade with some very cool features.  There will be a small pilot in the Spring and we will fully move to BB9 in May for Summer I Session.

We will be posting short videos and how-to’s over the next few months as well as offering classes throughout the campus.
