The Garner Citizen was born of a need to tell local stories often overlooked by bigger news organizations. From award-winning investigative projects to local features, we give our audience the news and information they need to become engaged citizens.
This new full-time position will work closely with editors fielding assignments while developing enterprise and watchdog stories. Hours and coverage areas vary, requiring flexibility. This reporter will write stories and take photographs on breaking news, local events and/or government meetings. The right candidate will have a passion for community news and can build a loyal audience across platforms.
Required skills and education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications or a related field. Newsroom experience and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite are a plus. Experience with social media, multimedia, HTML/CSS, and video are preferred.
