The application for the Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) Summer Program is now open for applications for Summer 2019! https://ecu-sa.terradotta.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgramAngular&id=10819 The deadline to apply is Thursday, January 31st!
With this program, students will earn 6 credits geared towards Chinese language and culture. The specific credits will be CHIN 1000: Intro to Chinese and GLST 1000: Introduction to Global Studies (can be used as a Humanities and/or Global Diversity credit). Three ECU students will be sponsored by Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) to attend this program at no cost during summer 2019! SHOU will be waiving the application fee, housing fee, and tuition costs for these 3 students. Students must complete this application in Pirates Abroad (linked above) in order to be considered for this opportunity, and the Office of Global Affairs will select the 3 students for SHOU to sponsor. These 3 students also have the opportunity to have their flight, meals and insurance charges covered as long as they also apply for the Thomas W. Rivers Foreign Exchange Scholarship, which is due January 20th. Sponsored students must apply for the Rivers to receive the funding towards their flights!
Students who are not selected for the sponsorship are still able to complete the SHOU program this summer, they will just be responsible for their own program costs. The great news is that the program cost is roughly $650 (based on current exchange rate)! This program cost includes the application fee, housing, and tuition! So, even if you are not selected for the sponsorship, this is an incredible (and very inexpensive) opportunity. Students not selected for the sponsorship are also encouraged to apply for the Thomas W. Rivers Scholarship as well as other ECU scholarships to potentially receiving funding for their flights, meals and other miscellaneous costs.
