Public Information Officer Internship for Tyrrell County Schools

TITLE: Communications and Marketing Intern

Stipend: $500.00 monthly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working towards a four-year or Master’s degree in communications or a related field is required.
  • Bilingual skill is an asset but not preferred.

REPORTS TO:  Public Information Officer

NATURE & SCOPE OF WORK: The communications Intern will utilize digital tools to foster and facilitate meaningful and efficient two-way communication/engagement between the district/schools and families. They will use digital tools and marketing strategies to support district recruitment effectively and marketing efforts, increase partnership opportunities for students/staff, and foster support for the school district. In addition, they will serve as a backup district representative for the news media, prepare statements and provide help with public records requests. The Communications Intern will also be essential in supporting TCS team members with marketing the district with local news outlets, planning and digital promotion of district engagement, and professional development activities helping families and schools with the support of the public information officer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support strategic district marketing and engagement efforts by effectively deploying digital communications tools and platforms.
  • Serves as a digital storyteller through effective news-gathering, writing, videos, photos, and posting on social media.
  • Support the management of the TCS website and social media channels, supporting school-level websites/social media channels as applicable.
  • Stays current on digital tools and marketing strategies to adapt and respond to ever-changing project needs.
  • Collaborates with and supports district-level staff and school-level to promote programming goals specific to parent engagement, including but not limited to: improved relationships between parents-teachers/staff, cross-cultural knowledge, and understanding, and increased attention from parents and families.
  • Supports and promotes TCS and school-level efforts during critical school periods such as Open House, registration, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Some work nights are required for Board Meetings and parent events.
