Job Summary/Description:  

Eastern Carolina’s #1 news station, WITN, is seeking a dynamic full-time Weekend Anchor/MMJ. Do you want to be a leader? We’re looking for someone to help guide our weekend team and take us to the next level and who can report important, balanced stories during the week. The ideal candidate has a knack for news and speaks the social media language. The successful candidate must be driven, creative, and an active content creator. We are looking for a top-notch journalist who can find great stories, pitch them well, and present them in newscasts. Candidates must be able to learn and retain knowledge on complex processes and manage their time to work successfully as an MMJ. An ideal candidate will bring strong and engaging content to a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Gather data and relevant information on local and national newsworthy events
• Pitch, create and present accurate, fair, unbiased news content as assigned
• Provide news and information across multiple platforms and to present content both inside WITN studios and remotely
• Be visible in the community and make appearances in the local DMA 
• Develop and maintain a network of news sources to create exclusive local news content 
• Stay current on both local and national news events 
• File public records requests when necessary for enterprise/investigative stories 
• Maintain all station-provided gear including but not limited to cameras, cell phones, tablets, laptops, vehicles, and any other assigned gear 
• Understand the editing process and all technical aspects of Edius editing software
• Use creative graphic and production techniques to enhance multimedia visual and audio storytelling 
• Work independently and use solid judgment on all stories, images, and sound that is used within a news story 
• Work under pressure in a rapidly changing news environment 
• Make decisions quickly and accurately 
• Work cross-functionally and cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines 
• Contribute to and potentially lead projects within the team to continue to make our newsroom a world-class operation 
• Interact professionally and effectively with all internal WITN employees and external organizations 

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Strong verbal/written communications skills and knowledge of AP Style required 
• Ability to work well under pressure and with a diverse group of people required
• Flexibility and on-the-spot problem-solving abilities required
• Ability to balance the demands of both long- and short-term projects while meeting daily deadlines required
• Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or a related field
• 1-2 years newsroom and digital content producing experience preferred 
• Willingness to work flexible shifts and be on call required
• Willingness to live and work in Greenville, NC and surrounding area required
