SECU Public Fellow Internships Summer and Fall – Multiple PAID Opportunities Listed

Up to 20 students will be chosen each year for SECU Public Fellow Internships. Program participants will take part in 20 hours of leadership and professional development workshops in addition to the 330-hour PFI internship experience. Each student selected for the program receives a stipend of $4,645.

Students will be expected to attend an orientation, attend workshops scheduled throughout and at the end of their internship, and present at a State Employees Credit Union Advisory Board meeting either in the summer or fall.

The SECU Public Fellowship Internship Program follows a multi-stage application process. Candidates must submit application materials for review and undergo an interview with community partner supervisors.

All students selected for the program must have undergraduate status and meet the following eligibility requirements by the internship start date:

  • North Carolina resident;
  • Completed at least 60 semester credit hours; and
  • Not graduating prior to internship start date

Position Summary – Marketing and Graphic Design Intern

Arts of the Pamlico and the Turnage Theatre (AOP/Turnage) is seeking an exceptional intern to fill the role of Marketing and Graphic Design and Event Team Member. Interns will be heavily involved in shaping AOP/Turnage by working directly with the executive team. Internship Location and Supervisor Information

Arts of the Pamlico (AOP) and the historic Turnage Theatre provide performing and visual arts and cultural opportunities through initiation, support, and presentation of artistic programs in Beaufort County and the surrounding region. It is a goal of the AOP to present a wide range of educational, entertainment, and cultural programs, and to encourage the same by advancing and supporting the efforts of local artists, arts organizations and arts businesses throughout the region.

With a 49-year history of serving rural eastern NC, AOP is one of the oldest arts councils in the state. Its diverse community encompasses a range of incomes, professions and interests. Housed at its Historic Turnage Theatre, constructed originally as a vaudeville theater in 1913 and expanded with a palace theatre to the rear in the early 1930’s, this community jewel has become the hub for community-based arts and culture activities.

Choanoke Area Development Association

Position Summary – Community Outreach Agent

The student intern will work with the office manager to provide information on resources to the community and to assist with intake applications for Energy Share. The student will also work with the community and youth to establish locations for youth to work for community service hours as requested by the court system. Intake will be completed on the youth and parents of the youth along with regularly monthly court appearances and meetings. The intern will be responsible for keeping up with the documentation for these youth under the supervision of the staff. Other projects and programs may be worked on as needed.

East Carolina Vocational Center (ECVC)

Position Summary – Sales Marketing Intern

This position is responsible for assisting with implementing various marketing campaigns to increase local awareness of ECVC, especially for our Employment Services. This position will work closely with the Marketing Assistant and Director of Marketing.

Duties include:

  • assisting with social media posts

Position Summary – Museum Assistant

The Greenville Museum of Art (GMoA) internship will provide an intern with the opportunity to gain experience in the inner workings of a private non-profit art museum. During this internship, the student will gain experience in three different museum departments including: Marketing and Event Planning, Collection and Curation, and Administration.

The student intern will be working directly with the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce on several projects, including but not limited to:

NC Stop Human Trafficking

Position Summary – Marketing and Communication Assistant

The marketing and communication assistant position requires the potential candidate to be comfortable posting on several social media platforms and website programs. The intern will be asked to share information on several social media platforms about NC Stop Human Trafficking’s programs, events and share other information around human trafficking as that information arises. The intern will be asked to collect and analyze performance on several social media platforms and websites and adjust the messaging based on the data to improve reach, engagement and website traffic. The marketing and communication assistant will also perform duties that include networking with other service providers, businesses, corporations and community members in an effort to build anti-human trafficking support in the community and fundraise for the nonprofit.

NC Stop Human Trafficking has a vision of a state free of human trafficking with a mission to create communities actively working to abolish human trafficking. NC Stop Human Trafficking does that with four action items. The first is education. The NGO trains professionals who are likely to work with human trafficking survivors about what victimization looks like and how to respond effectively, and in a trauma-informed way. The organization also focuses on collaboration. Human trafficking prevention and response takes a team of professionals and community members to work together. The agency also advocates for stronger anti-human trafficking legislation on state and federal levels because change begins with sound policy decisions. Finally, NC Stop Human Trafficking introduces fair trade products into the local markets through the Fair Traders Project. Fair trade certification means that products are made and harvested without exploitation of human beings.

The Ronald McDonald House of Eastern North Carolina provides a temporary “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment from area medical facilities.
