Read moreThe Rich Content Editor (RCE) is the formatting box where you add text, images, links, Mediasite videos, Studio media, etc. You use it when creating announcements, pages, discussions, quizzes, etc. It’s everywhere!
The updated RCE has been reorganized and has a more compact formatting bar with dropdowns to access previously visible formatting options.
In order for students to view announcements from your Homepage, click settings, Details Tab, scroll to the bottom for “more options” and the first option is to check the box to show on Announcements on Homepage and you can select how many to show.
Remember if you have copied content from a previous semester, announcements will be copied and may need to be edited.
Instructors can add a Rubrics item to a course’s navigation. The Rubrics navigation item is only visible to instructors and provides a shortcut so you can more easily access and manage rubrics.
Student analytics show you how well a particular student is doing in your course. You can also view student analytics after your course has concluded. Lots of good information.
Go to Settings, Feature Options, to activate new course and user analytics.

The Assignments page will allow batch editing of all assignment, discussion, and quiz due dates and availability from a single page.
Benefit: Saves time managing assignment due dates and availability.
If you are not cross-listing your multiple sections you can easily copy content from one class to another, go to Settings, Import Content, Select Copy a Canvas Course, Search for Course, select content to be imported.
You can also Copy to specific items within a course to another course.
The Dashboard, Courses menu, and All Courses page displays sections for published and unpublished courses. The main Dashboard will only list courses for the current term. So when students can’t access just look at your Dashboard!
Canvas allows you to choose what students see when they enter your course by letting you select the “Homepage”. A tip from a colleague suggests changing it weekly to respond to that weeks topic. Share content by going to the item, edit, click on the snowman dots and select copy to, start typing name of Course and where it should be placed. Done!
Too many courses on your dashboard, clean it up by clicking the Courses link in the purple menu, scroll down until you see All Courses and then click the star for the courses you want to see on your dashboard, quick and easy!
You can easily export grades as you did in BB, go to grades, select Actions, select Export and a file you can open in excel is downloaded.
