ERHD Alumni Update – Shannon Spence – New Position

Here is some great news that I recently received from our 2015 ERHD graduate – Shannon Spence.

Shannon informed me that since receiving her ERHD certificate, she was offered and accepted a position with NC DHHS as a PCS Policy Analyst at the Division of Medical Assistance. Shannon started her new position on May 2nd. She also said the following:

“I think the hard work is paying off!”

As Director of the ERHD program, I am very delighted, overjoyed and PROUD to know that Shannon has TRULY benefited from taking the 4 courses and completing the ERHD certificate. That’s what I am talking about — the tangible, practical benefits of our ERHD courses, training and certificate. It leads to new opportunities!

Here is Shannon’s photo.

Jessica W. Miller – Our Latest 2015 ERHD Graduate!

Jessica Miller – Our latest ERHD graduate

As Director of the ERHD program, it gives me great pleasure to announce our latest ERHD graduate – Jessica W. Miller. Jessica just completed her final course (MPH 6009) Capstone Experience in Ethnic Health & Health Disparities this summer. The title of her Capstone Proposal was, “A Qualitative Study Proposal for a Needs Assessment: Gardening Program for Lumbee Indian Youth.”

Jessica’s Capstone Proposal was simply outstanding primarily because it not only provided a wealth of health disparity data on the Lumbee Indians in Robeson County but it also provided the significance of developing culturally competent strategies, cultural health information, and new potential public health initiative as it relates to community gardening for Lumbee Indian youth. Finally, Jessica’s Capstone proposal is truly reflective and representative of all the outstanding Capstone projects from our ERHD graduates!

So please share this information with your colleagues and send me an email if you want to know about our ERHD program and about our latest ERHD graduate – Jessica W. Miller.
