Enrolling for Spring 2012 and Offering ERHD Scholarships

The ERHD Graduate Certificate Online Program is accepting applications from qualified graduate students for Spring 2012. Individuals can either enroll at full-time or part-time status. Please review the requirements for acceptance into the program listed in an earlier ERHD blog posting.

The ERHD program is also offering ERHD scholarships. Scholarships vary in the amount depending on whether a student is in-state or out-of-state. Scholarships are designed to assist students with the tuition of taking ERHD courses.

The spring ERHD course is “Ethnic Health & Health Disparities: MPH 6008”. We look forward to all new students in 2012 and we are expecting our first ERHD graduates in 2012.

ERHD Program Adds New Students for Spring 2011 Semester

The Ethnic and Rural Health Disparities (ERHD) had a successful start in the fall with the first set of exceptional student professionals beginning our program. Now, we are beginning the Spring 2011 semester and we are fortunate to have three more students to join our innovative graduate online program.

The new students will join our other ERHD students in taking the next course in our program which is “Ethnic Health and Health Disparities: MPH 6008.”. The Ethnic and Health Disparities course major objectives are:
1. Identify and assess the major health issues associated with specific ethnic and health disparity populations in the United States;
2. Describe ethnic health and health disparity issues, including its unique and important features; and
3. Apply principles and strategies derived from public health and medical anthropology toward planning, implementing and evaluating specific ethnic health and health disparities intervention programs.

This course is the cornerstone of our ERHD program and it allows all the student professionals to investigate, discuss, analyze and implement the type of programs that will REALLY work in ethnic and health disparity communities throughout our United States and globally. By the end of this course, therefore, student professionals will be empowered with a new set of professional skill sets that will separate themselves from ALL the OTHERS in the public health and medical fields who are attempting to do health disparities research and programming.

In my opinion, this type of intense, continual and higher educational training is DESPERATELY needed in public health and medical schools across the country. If you would like to receive this type of training, then the ERHD program is for you.

Spring 2010 Course – Ethnic Health & Health Disparities: MPH 6008

The ERHD Graduate Certificate Online Program will be offering for the Spring 2010 semester the course: Ethnic Health & Health Disparities: MPH 6008. . This course is one of the foundation courses of the entire program. It is a course that is not offerred at many other universities so this is a very special class.

Course Objectives:
1. Identify and assess the major health issues associated with specific ethnic and health disparity populations in the United States;

2. Describe ethnic and health disparity isues, including its unique and important features; and

3. Apply principles and strategies derived from public health and medical anthropology toward planning, implementing and evaluating specific ethnic health and health disparities intervention programs.

In addition to the course objectives, one of the requirements for students in this course is to conduct an applied ethnic health & health disparities fieldwork project or proposal. If you would like to see a listing of some of my former student projects from this class, go to my Course Happenings Blog at: http://blogs.aos.ecu.edu/anth-baileye

Once students complete this course, they feel like they have discovered a brand new orientation and appreciation for all the ethnic and health disparity groups in the U.S. and abroad. That’s what I really like about this course – it challenges our stereotypes and moves us to a culturally competent approach to public health and medical care.

Send me an email if you have any questions concerning this course: MPH 6008 – Ethnic Health & Health Disparities
