New ERHD Graduate – Karen Saffron – Fall 2019

It was with great pleasure to acknowledge our latest ERHD graduate — Karen Saffron. Karen is another exceptional graduate professional who completed our program officially during the summer of 2019 yet had to delay her graduation ceremony activities because of going through spinal surgery. We therefore decided to delay her participation until the Fall Graduation ceremony with the Department of Public Health’s MPH graduation ceremony.

Karen Saffron final CAPSTONE paper was entitled, “The Silent Healthcare Crisis: The Disparity of an Elderly Population.” Not only did she complete an outstanding and insightful Capstone paper, Karen also performed exceptionally well in all the other remaining ERHD courses (MPH 6005, MPH 6007, and MPH 6008).

Here is our SELFIE

New ERHD Graduate – Eunicia Jones – Being Recognized at ECU Graduation Ceremony – Spring 2019

On May 3rd, 2019, it was a very SPECIAL day in which I was supposed to award TWO graduate students their ERHD Graduate Certificates at the Department of Public Health Graduation ceremonies for their MPH students. My two new ERHD graduates were:

  • Eunicia Jones
  • Karen Saffron

Unfortunately, both students were not able to attend this graduation in the middle of the day. Yet surprisingly, I met Eunicia Jones during the main ECU graduation ceremony in the early evening. Eunicia actually received her DOCTORATE in Marriage and Family Therapy earlier in the day and during the main ECU graduation ceremony.

I was therefore SO PROUD to finally meet her at the graduation ceremony and THANK HER for all the outstanding work she did throughout the four ERHD classes that she completed for her ERHD graduate certificate!

So please give a THANKS to our new graduates AGAIN for completing their ERHD certificate!

New 2018 ERHD Graduates – Eunicia Jones and Jacquaya Reel

As Director of the ERHD program, it always gives me great pleasure to ANNOUNCE our new set of ERHD graduates. Our two new ERHD graduates are:

  • Eunicia Jones
  • Jacquaya Reel

Eunicia and Jacquaya completed their final ERHD course this summer — MPH 6009 Capstone Experience in Ethnic Health and Health Disparities. In addition to completing the assignments, both had to complete a Capstone proposal which reflected their total understanding and new set of research skills that they learned from completing all the three ERHD courses.

The two ERHD Capstone projects were entitled:

  • “Community Wellness among African American Teens” by Eunicia Jones
  • “A Proposed Intervention to Address Homicide and Suicide among Black Female Adolescents in the United States” by Jacquaya Reel

Both Capstone proposals were very insightful, innovative, and culturally-competent!! Theses two capstone proposals are representative of the types of final proposals from all of our ERHD graduates.

Here is a photo of Eunicia “Niecie” Jones.

Congrats again to Eunicia “Niecie” Jones and Jacquaya Reel for completing your ERHD Graduate Certificate program.

New ERHD Graduate – Amy Lee — Receives her ERHD Certificate at MPH Ceremony – May 4th, 2018

It gives me GREAT pleasure to introduce our latest ERHD Graduate – Amy Lee,  Yesterday, Amy participated in the MPH graduating ceremony to receive her ERHD Graduate Certificate. She completed all of the ERHD courses (MPH 6005, MPH 6007, MPH 6008, and MPH 6009) last year and now finally received her diploma! Amy’s Capstone proposal entitled, “Renal Cell Carcinoma Community Based Participatory Research: African American Empowerment to Action.” was very personal and culturally innovative!! That’s probably why she is moving forward to start her doctoral studies at UNCG in a Community Health program!

I am so PROUD of her achievements and Amy’s strong desire to do something for her community! That’s why our ERHD continues to support and strive to train the next generation of ERHD students because we know each one of our graduates will make a SIGNIFICANT impact in the community and their professional jobs for years to come!!
