Respondus Lockdown Browser & Monitor & Test Generator

LockDown Browser (a custom browser that locks down a computer during online exams) and Respondus Monitor (an automated proctoring system for non-proctored exam environments.

Respondus Monitor is a software-based video proctoring service that can be used when students take a test in Blackboard or Canvas. Respondus Monitor tracks and records suspicious behavior such as using a secondary device, calculator, textbook or receiving assistance from other students. Respondus Monitor creates a flagged and timestamped video for the instructor to review.

Respondus Test Generator can be used in the Canvas environment.   Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment, or moved from one eLearning system to another. Whether you are a veteran of online testing or relatively new to it, Respondus will save you hours on each project.

You can specify Respondus Monitor for use with any Canvas or Blackboard quiz. First create the quiz, then specify Respondus Monitor in the Respondus options.

Recommendations

  • Add information to your syllabus about using Respondus Monitor.
  • Require that students first take a low-stakes practice quiz using Respondus. This ensures their computer and other devices are properly set up to use Respondus Monitor.
  • Inform students that extra time is required to complete the Respondus Monitor setup.
